First Flowering Zucchini

We are on our way to having Italian Zucchini right here in NYC on the 9th floor.  Can you imagine?

Our plant launched its first set of flowers this morning and we anxiously await like new parents for the coming fruit...and hopeful pollination.

Pollination.  How?  Bees......

9 stories up means we need to attract bees to our terrace rather than hope they causally stop by for a quick bit to eat. How are we attracting bees to our container garden?

Flowers.  Lots of them.

We planted flowers everywhere in containers of all shapes and sizes around our vegetables.  The bees that I see out the window this afternoon see our terrace as a gourmet bar where they can stop on the way down to Riverside Park or on the way back to Central Park.

Building a strategy for your container garden is key to your success.  Flowers are one of the most important aspects to delivering the fruit and vegetables you desire!
